Cat Ba Cable Car Schedule 2026: Current Times & Tuesday Closure

The Cat Hai–Phu Long cable car operates in six short windows on operating days and is closed every Tuesday. The current timetable is valid from 7 September 2026: 09:00–09:15, 10:00–10:15, 11:00–11:15, 13:30–13:45, 14:30–14:45 and 15:30–15:45. Recheck with Sun World before travelling.

Current Cat Ba cable-car timetable

The official Sun World Cat Ba notice supplied to Cat Ba Outdoors states the following schedule, valid from 7 September 2026.

Session Operating window
Morning 1 09:00–09:15
Morning 2 10:00–10:15
Morning 3 11:00–11:15
Afternoon 1 13:30–13:45
Afternoon 2 14:30–14:45
Afternoon 3 15:30–15:45

Weekly closure: Tuesday. The notice also prints “Monday–Sunday,” but its explicit operational note says “Closed on Tuesday.” The practical reading is therefore open on the other six days, closed Tuesday.

These are operating windows, not a continuous all-day service. Arriving at 11:30, for example, could mean waiting until 13:30. Build the cable-car window into the whole journey, including the road transfer on either side.

What the cable car connects

The 3,955-metre line links Cat Hai with Phu Long on Cat Ba Island. Sun World describes the system as a three-rope cable car with 60 cabins and a designed capacity of 4,500 passengers per hour. The crossing itself is short, but the cable car does not take you to Cat Ba Town.

After arriving at Phu Long, you still need a road transfer across the island. Treat the cable car as the sea-crossing component of a multi-leg trip, not a door-to-door service.

Who should choose the cable car?

The cable car works best for foot passengers who value a quick, scenic crossing and can align their arrival with one of the six windows. It is less suitable when:

  • you travel on Tuesday;
  • you need to bring a car or motorbike across;
  • your flight or bus arrives after the final 15:30–15:45 window;
  • you have a same-day boat check-in with little recovery time.

Private cars cannot ride in a passenger cable-car cabin. Travellers with a vehicle should compare the drive-on ferry instead. Travellers on an integrated Hanoi–Cat Ba ticket should check whether the operator uses the cable car, a ferry or a speedboat, because the transfer sequence changes.

Ticket and contact information

Sun World’s official page published on 9 September 2026 lists a one-way adult fare of 70,000 VND from 7 September 2026 and free travel for children under one metre. Prices can change; check the booking page on your travel date rather than relying on a screenshot.

A safer connection plan

  1. Check the day of the week first. Tuesday requires another crossing.
  2. Choose a window with at least 30–45 minutes of margin before it begins.
  3. Confirm how you will travel from Phu Long to your accommodation or pier.
  4. If joining a cruise, follow the cruise’s confirmed meeting time, not a generic blog estimate.
  5. Recheck the service on the day before travel. Weather, maintenance or operational control can change the timetable.

FAQ

Is the Cat Ba cable car closed on Tuesday?

Yes. The official timetable valid from 7 September 2026 states that the service is closed every Tuesday.

What is the last Cat Ba cable-car window?

The final published operating window is 15:30–15:45. This can change, so confirm directly with Sun World before depending on it for a connection.

Does the cable car go to Cat Ba Town?

No. It crosses from Cat Hai to Phu Long. You need onward road transport from Phu Long to Cat Ba Town, your hotel or the relevant pier.

Can I take luggage?

Sun World’s English transport page includes luggage guidance but the accessible text does not expose the detailed allowance. Contact the operator if you have oversized bags, bicycles or special equipment.

Plan it with us

If your arrival does not fit one of the operating windows, compare an integrated bus–ferry, bus–speedboat or private transfer before committing to separate tickets.
