A flexible day is a buffer you can actually use. It gives you room to respond to an unconfirmed activity, a revised programme or simple travel fatigue. It does not guarantee that a cancelled tour can move to the following day with space available.
Place the flexibility where it matters
If your main interest is a bay activity, avoid putting your only possible departure immediately before leaving the island. Stay long enough to discuss an alternative if needed. Check the booking's change and cancellation conditions; flexibility in your diary is separate from flexibility in the ticket.
Keep the backup uncommitted
A relaxed town meal, time at your accommodation or another locally confirmed activity can fill a free period. Do not prepay a second complicated itinerary and call it a backup. That simply creates another obligation.

Tell the organiser your available dates when requesting an activity on approval. If only one date works, say so clearly. A slower plan can be more useful than adding another attraction, particularly during a short stay. Build the buffer deliberately instead of relying on an unrealistic transfer connection to create it.
